Every city has a symbol.
Shibuya: Hachiko obviously.
Ikebukuro: Ike-fukuroo right?
Shinjuku is no exception.

Actually, Shinjuku has many many symbols.
Godzilla in Kabukicho,
The eye under the Subaru building,
or the Lion in front of the studio Alta,
the list goes on.

But for me, it's the dog.
The dog.
You might think that there is no dog in Shinjuku.
But there is.

It's this:

Tano-kun
Tano-kun holds a special place in my mind.
Because it is the very first thing that I saw when I came to Shinjuku for the first time.
Shinjuku is such a busy and complicated city. Naturally, I got lost many many times.
But whenever I got lost, I was able to find my way, thanks to the dog: Tano-kun.
This Tano-kun is very visible from Yasukuni-Dori.
Once you hit Yasukuni-Dori and look right or left, there he is, always.

Tano-kun became my beacon in Shinjuku.
Now I don't get lost in Shinjuku anymore.
But he still holds a special place in my mind.

I think everyone has a symbol in Shinjuku.
What would be your symbol in Shinjuku?
